SpongeBob has become one of the most popular cartoon characters of all time. I have to admit, it is one of the funniest cartoon series around. It’s no wonder that so many people want to know how to draw him.
He’s pretty easy to draw, so let’s get started…
Step 1
Begin by drawing a parallelogram for SpongeBob’s body. If it is easier, you may opt to draw a rectangle first, then make the lower line just a bit shorter. Draw two circles that overlap each other just a little bit. Draw two lines that extend from the parallelogram and connect them like is done in the picture below.
Step 2
Next, draw two smaller circles inside of the larger circles that you have drawn already. These circles will become the irises of SpongeBob’s eyes. Draw a line to indicate SpongeBob’s top lip. Draw two shapes for each of the shoulders. Draw two shapes for the bottom of the shorts.
Step 3
Now draw the bottom of SpongeBob’s lip. Draw a shape to indicate SpongeBob’s nose. (Remember, it’s okay to let some of these lines overlap.) Draw a straight line for the top of the shirt. Add some cylinders for the shapes of the arms and legs.
Step 4
At this point, our drawing is starting to come together. Add a couple of squares for the teeth and a curved line for the tonque. Draw a couple of triangles for the collar of the shirt and the shapes for the tie. Draw a line for the top of the shorts. Add a couple of circles for the hands and for the shoes.
Step 5
In this step of the drawing, we will start to add some of the details. Draw a couple of smaller circles inside of the one’s you drew earlier. These circles are SpongeBob’s pupils. Draw three lines from the top of the eyes for eyelashes. Draw a line under the bottom of the mouth to add some form to the mouth. Add a line for the cheek. Finish the fingers and add the stripes to the socks and the details to the shoes.
Step 6
Finish the drawing by going over your lighter lines with a dark line. Erase any lines that are no longer needed. Make the edges of SpongeBob wavy. Let some of the lines be thicker than others. This will make your drawing more interesting. Add freckles and sponge holes. Draw the belt by making a dashed line around SpongeBob’s waist. Color in the shoes, mouth and pupils with black.
