How to Draw a Robot Step by Step

In this step by step drawing demonstration, you will learn how to draw a robot.  This tutorial shows how to draw a classic robot.  All robots are cool of course, but my favorite robots are the classic ones.

The way we’ll draw this robot is by drawing the simple shapes that make up the robot.  It’s easy to draw when you do this.  In fact, you can draw anything when you learn how to break objects down into the simple shapes that make them up.  So, let’s get ready to draw a robot.

Here’s how to draw a robot step by step…

Step 1
Begin the drawing of a robot by drawing a box form.  You can draw the rectangle shape first and then draw three diagonal lines from it.  Then just connect the diagonal lines that you drew to create the box form.

Step 2
Alot is going on here in step two, but it’s all pretty basic shapes to draw.  First, draw another box shape that is floating above your original box shape.  The shape that you drew in step one is going to be the body of the robot and the floating shape above will be the robot’s head.  Now, draw rectangle shapes to represent the arms and small squares at the end of the arms to be the hands.  Also, draw a couple more rectangles below the body to represent the top part of the legs.  And two more below them to represent the lower parts of the legs.

Step 3
In this step, you will need to make the rectangle shapes that you made into forms by adding some “thickness” to them.  Draw two circles on the front of the head of the robot.  These circles will be the crazy robot eyes.  Also, add a rectangle for the mouth. Remember, you can make the robot face look like anything that you want.  Draw a couple of diagonal lines coming out of the body shape and a rectangle on the chest.  Don’t forget to add a couple of shapes for the feet in this stage.

Step 4
Now the personality (or lack of it) of your robot should be starting to show.  Finish of the feet in this step and any “do dats” and such to the robot.  I have added a couple of things to his shoulders and an antenna so that the mother ship can communicate with the robot.

Step 5
Using the structure that you have drawn in the previous steps, you can finish the drawing of the robot.  Add some shadow to create the illusion of a light source and what ever else that you want.  Be sure to use a variety of line to make your drawing interesting.  I hope you have enjoyed learning how to draw a robot.
