In this step by step drawing tutorial, we’re going to take a look at one of the most interesting sea creatures, the octopus.  Octopi, despite being quite scary looking are really not dangerous.  In fact, most octopi are really very small.  They have unique bodies whose arms are filled with suckers.  Eyes rest on either end of their huge heads that are often covered with elaborate colors and patterns.  Fortunately, all of this complexity can be simplified into easy to draw shapes and lines. I can’t think of a more interesting animal to draw. Well, maybe I can, but this lesson is about drawing an octopus, so let’s get on with it.

How to Draw an Octopus, Step by Step

Step 2
Next, we’ll draw a shape to represent the main body of the octopus.  We’ll also draw some lines to indicate the arms.  We can approach this like drawing a stick figure.  Be sure to make the ends of the arms curl up.  You should also add a small mark for the eye.

Step 3
Now we can add some thickness to the arms by adding another line to other side of the arms.

Step 4
In this stage of the drawing, it’s time to add some details.  And in the case of an octopus, details mean suckers.

Step 5
Now you can go over all of your lines with a darker drawing material like ink (not the kind that octopi shoot out).  Erase any lines that may be left to reveal your octopus.  Add a few spots and marks to the body to make the octopus look more realistic.  Also don’t forget to add the hole thing on the side of the head that is used for propulsion through the water.  (I understand that it’s called the hyponome.)

Snakes are such scary creatures.  And what snake is the king of all snakes?  Well, the cobra of course.  I’m not talking G. I . Joe’s evil nemesis either.  I’m talking slither around on the ground and bite you snake.  Snakes really do freak me out, so why not draw one?  In this drawing tutorial, we’re going to take a look at drawing a cobra.

How to Draw a Cobra, Step by Step

Step 2
In this step of the drawing, we can draw the body of the snake.  Be sure to let the body look natural by having it wrap around itself.  Be careful and try to keep the body of the cobra consistent in width until you get to the tail portion.

Step 3
Now, we’ll begin to add some the details on the cobra.  Add a couple of evil snake eyes, and draw the ribs that go down the center of the snake.  You can also add a line for the part of the mouth that can be seen in this view.

Step 4
Now we can add the scales and patterns on the cobra’s body.  Notice that the scales are larger and more pronounced on the head of the snake.  The patterns on the hood can vary from cobra to cobra, so feel free to be creative here.  You can indicate the scales on the body by placing groups of scales here and there around the body.

Step 5
You now have enough information in your drawing to finish the drawing of a cobra.  You may choose to go over your lines with ink or another dark drawing medium.  You can also erase any lines that you no longer need to complete the drawing.

Many of us like to head out to the beach for our vacations or holidays.  I absolutely love the beach.  When you are wading in the shallows, though, it’s always a good idea to look below and keep a look out for crabs.  A nasty pinch by one of these boys won’t feel very good.  Crabs have some interesting bodies and make great subjects for drawings.  So let’s get started and take a look at how to draw a crab.

How to Draw a Crab, Step by Step

Step 2
Next, add a couple more developed shapes for the rest of the crab’s claws.  Add a bit of detail to the “face” of the crab here too.

Step 3
Now you can draw the segmented parts of the legs.  Be sure to use the lines that you drew in the previous step as guide.

Step 4
Now it’s time to add some details to the shapes that you have drawn.  Add a few details to the claws, and make the main body of the crab’s body a bit more rigid.   You should also draw a couple of eyes and use some wiggly lines to add some interest to the “face” of the crab.

Step 5
Now you have enough information to finish your drawing.   Just use the shapes that you have drawn as a guide.  You may choose to go over your lines with ink and then erase any pencil lines that may remain.  Be sure to make the ends of the claws dark so that the finished drawing is a bit more realistic.

This step by step drawing tutorial will take a look at how to draw a book.  Luckily, books are very easy to draw.  They  are basically a box with details.  

Books come in many different variations, so feel free to take these steps and customize them to make your drawing of a book look however you wish.   Add some color, a title, make it thinner or thicker, add a book mark, or whatever else you wish.  

So get that pencil ready and let’s draw a book.

Here’s How to Draw a Book, step by step…

Step 1
Begin by drawing the top of the book.  The book that we’re drawing will be sitting on a table.  Notice how the top portion of the book gets smaller as it extends away from the viewer.  This is because the book is in 2 point perspective.  This means that the edges of the book will not be parallel.   Instead, they will eventually meet at a point called a vanishing point.  It is important to have these lines like they are in the picture.

Step 2
Now, you can draw the left edge of the book.  Draw two lines that come directly down from each of the corners of the book.  Then, connect those lines with a straight line.

Step 3
Next we can draw the botom edge of the book.  We’ll do this in the same manner that we drew the left side.

Step 4
Now we can draw some of the details on the book.  We can make the book look a bit more three dimensional by adding a smaller rectangle on the bottom edge of the book.  We can also add a few more lines for the binding, as well as a small curved line for the pages inside of the book.

Step 5
Now we can finish the drawing from the framework that we created in the previous steps.  Go over your lines with a darker medium and erase any excess lines that you may have.  You can add any details to the book that you like as well.

In this step by step drawing tutorial, we are going to draw a smiling mouth.  There’s nothing better than a face with a smile on it.  However, it can be difficult to draw a mouth that’s smiling.  Some people opt to go the “cartoony” route when anybody can draw a more realistic smile by just following a simple step by step procedure.  I would suggest that whenever you draw a smiling mouth that you look at some kind of photo reference, or better yet, the actual person.  You can still follow the steps, just apply them to the smile that you are trying to draw.

Here’s How to Draw a Smiling Mouth Step by Step…

Step 1
Begin by drawing  a slightly curved line for the bottom of the upper lip and a line like the one in the picture for the top of the bottom lip.  Some people start their drawing of lips by drawing the outside lines first.  I think it’s easier when you draw the inside outlines first.

Step 2
Now you can draw the outside outlines of the top and bottom lips.  Notice that the top line for the upper lip looks like a mashed “m”.  Also pay special attention to the fact that the bottom lip is larger than the top lip and that the top and bottom lips don’t meet up at a point at the corners.  There is a little bit of space there and that should be included in your drawing.

Step 3
Now we can concentrate on the teeth.  This is the step where many people make mistakes.  To help me find where the teeth should be positioned, I will draw a mini grid down the center, both horizontally and vertically.

Step 4
Now that you’ve got an idea where the teeth should be, you can go ahead and draw them in.

Step 5
Now, you can go over your lines with ink and erase any lines that you no longer need.   To make your lips look more realistic, be sure to add some cross contour lines around the lips and add some shadowing in the corners.

In this drawing tutorial, we’re going to look at how to draw a bat.  Not a baseball bat, but a flying mammal, bat.  Many people are terrified of bats.  I’m not really sure why this is the case because bats are pretty much harmless to humans.  (They are pretty scary looking though.)  I would say that the only time you have to fear a bat is when that bat is really a vampire flying around.  So, let’s get started and draw a bat.

Here’s how to draw a bat, step by step…

Step 2
Now we’ll move on to drawing the wings of the bat.  Draw a few lines like the ones in the picture to indicate the top portions of the wings.  It’s okay to make these lines a bit jagged.  By making the lines jagged, you will make the bat wings look a little more realistic.  Also, draw a couple of rounded triangles for the ears coming from the smaller circle.

Step 3
In this step, we’ll continue with the wings by drawing several lines down from the pinacle of each wing.  Again, these lines can be a little jagged.  Also, add some details to the face and a couple of lines on the inside of the ears to make the ears a bit more realistic.

Step 4
Now we can finish off the bottom of the wings of the bat.  These lines should curve upward.  Add some nostrils to the nose on the face and some fangs and teeth in the mouth.  Don’t forget that bats have legs, so add them in this step of the drawing.

Step 5
You now can use the shapes and lines to finish the drawing of a bat.  Go over your lines with ink and erase any lines that you no longer need.  Add a bit of shadow under the wings and under the body of the bat and you’re done!

This drawing tutorial will teach you how to draw a Rhinoceros step by step.  When I think of Rhinos, I can’t help but think of how weird of an animal that they are.  It must be nice to have that huge horn on your nose to use whenever you need it.  Unfortunately, it’s that huge horn that gets them killed by human poachers.  Hunters kill the Rhinos and sell the horn illegally.  Rhinos look menacing, but in reality they are actually herbivores, meaning that they only eat plants.  So enough about Rhinos, let’s draw one.

Here’s how to draw a Rhinoceros, step by step…

Step 1
Begin the drawing of a Rhinoceros by drawing two ovals.  The larger oval will become the main portion of the Rhino, while the smaller oval will become the head of the Rhino.

Step 2
Next, you can draw some of the outlines for the body of the Rhino.  Notice that these lines are a bit jagged.  Try to make your lines follow the ones in the picture a s closely as possible.  Add the bottom right legs of the Rhinoceros here as well.  Notice that in our drawing the right hind leg is coming forward a bit.

Step 3
Now, you should add a few details to the face of the Rhino. These details should include the right eye, the mouth, and a few wrinkles.  Also draw the ears and the left legs.  Notice the line that will need to be drawn to define the neck of the Rhinoceros.  Be sure to add wrinkles that wrap around the contours of the Rhino to make the drawing seem more realistic.

Step 4
Next you can draw the tail, some more wrinkles, and of course the horn.  But take note, there is more than just one horn!  In fact, most Rhinos have a few horns.  Be sure to draw them right down the middle of the head.

Step 5
Now you have enough information to finish your drawing of the Rhinoceros.  Go over your lines with a darker drawing material, perhaps with ink.  Then erase any lines that are left that you no longer need.  Add a bit of grass and shadow underneath the Rhinoceros to finish off the drawing.

In this drawing tutorial, we’ll take a look at drawing one of the coolest cars ever.  That car, my friends, is the Lamborghini.  Sleek design and high performance make this car, a car that many people dream about owning.  Although, you may never own one in real life, there’s nothing that says that you can’t draw one.  I’ll have to admit, this drawing tutorial is in the difficult range.  It has more steps than most of the  other tutorials.  But as long as you take it one step at a time, there’s no reason why you can’t draw a Lamborghini.

Here’s how to draw a Lamborghini, step by step…

Step 1
Begin your drawing by drawing a slanted form like the one in the picture.  This form is similar to a wedge or a door stopper.  Notice that the front of the wedge shape is slanted and the rear of the form is straight.

Step 2
In the last step, we defined the core of the car.  In this step, we’ll define the top of the car.  Draw a couple of curved lines beginning at the corners of the front of the wedge shape and end them at the far end of the wedge shape.  Then draw a line towards the middle of the car to connect both of the lines that you drew.

Step 3
Now we’ll take the shapes we’ve drawn and begin to make them look more like a car.  Again, from the front corners of the original wedge shape, draw two curved lines.  Define the wheel wells of the Lamborghini using the bottom line of the wedge as a guide.  Also draw a curved line to define the back of the car using the wedge as a guide.  Draw a few more lines to define the windows of the car and make the windshield of the car a bit more diagonal.

Step 4
Next we’ll add a few more details to the car.  Draw a few more lines to further define the windows.  Also draw a few lines on the hood of the car to add the accent lines and the shapes for the head lights.  Also add another line under the original wedge shape that you drew in the first step.

Step 5
Now we’ll need to add the wheels and the tires of the Lamborghini.  You can also finish off the head light shapes in this step.  Don’t forget to draw the distinctive details on the side of the car.

Step 6
Now our Lamborghini is starting to take shape.  In this step of the drawing, you’ll want to add some detail to the wheels.  I choose to draw wheels with a repeating circle pattern, but you can customize them any way that you like.  Also draw the side mirrors which, on a Lamborghini, are pretty large.  Also add the necessary details to the grill of the car and a few light lines for the the actual lamps inside of the head lights.

Step 7
Now you enough information to finish the drawing of a Lamborghini.  Add a few small details here and there and add some shading around and under the car.   Erase any lines that you no longer need and enjoy you’re very own Lamborghini.

Step 1
The first step of the drawing is to draw a line from the head to the feet of the Grinch.  This will ensure that you get the entire drawing on the surface of the paper.  Next, draw a line for the shoulders and a line for the waist.

Step 2
Next, you can draw a few circles for the structure of the Grinch.  Draw an oval shape for the head, a small circle for the upper body, and a large circle for the bottom portion of the body.  You can also draw some lines for the arms.  I like to draw little circles for where the joints are.

Step 3
Next, draw what looks like a split heart for the basic shape of the Grinch’s face.  You can also draw the hands like they are drawn in the picture.  Draw a leaning triangle on top of the head.  This triangle will eventually be the hat that the Grinch is wearing.  You can also draw the stick figure for the legs and feet.

Step 4
At this stage in the drawing, we will begin to add some details to our drawing of the Grinch.  You can go ahead and thicken up the stick figure structure and put some clothes on that Grinch.  Add a poofy look to the edges of the outfit.  Go ahead and draw the eyes, eyebrows, and the mouth.  Be sure to leave a couple of little white dots in each eye.  Thicken up the stick figure structure that you drew for the legs as well.  Be sure to make the legs look furry.

Step 5
Now, all that’s left to add to your drawing of the Grinch is to add a few more details to the face.  Draw a nose and a couple of extra lines above the eyebrows.  Bring a line down from the nose and connect it to the mouth.  You can go over all of your lines with ink or a marker to finish your drawing.  “You’re a mean (drawing), Mr. Grinch…”

Here’s how to draw Stewie Griffin step by step…

Step 1
Let’s begin our drawing of Stewie Griffin by drawing a large oval with a smaller circle below it. The large oval will be the head and the smaller circle will be the main part of the body.

Step 2
Next, draw two circles inside the oval.  Also draw two half circles on each end of the oval.  These will be the ears of Stewie.  Draw two shapes underneath the middle circle.  These shapes will be the legs.

Step 3
Next, add some eyelids and a couple of dots for the eyes.  Add a backwards “J” in one ear and a regular “J” in the other.  Add some shapes for the arms and draw a couple of ovals for the feet.

Step 4
Stewie needs some hair so draw some lines to indicate the hair.  Add a nose directly in between the eyes and mouth right below it.  Go ahead and add some hands and some overalls.

Step 5
Now Stewie is actually drawn, you just need to go over your lines.  You may choose to do this with an ink pen.  Once the ink is dry, you can erase any pencil lines that may be left.
